Nutkevitch, Ware earn All-SUNYAC recognition


POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY Potsdam hockey players Sy Nutkevitch and Erick Ware have earned All-State University of New York Athletic Conference honors. Nutkevitch has been named to the second team, while Ware earned a spot on the third team.
 
Nutkevitch leads the Bears and the SUNYAC in scoring and is tied for eighth in the nation with 38 points (8 goals- 30 assists). He also leads the conference in assists and is second in the country in assists-per-game (1.20). For several weeks during the regular season, Potsdam's captain sat atop the nation's scoring list. On Friday at Cortland, the forward notched two assists for his 100th and 101st career points. In 98 games as a Bear, Nutkevitch has 25 goals and 76 assists.
 
Ware made an immediate impact in his freshman season with Potsdam. He is the Bears' fourth leading scorer with four goals and 13 assists for 17 points. His average of 0.85 points-per-game leads all SUNYAC defenseman and is the 14th best by a blue liner in the nation. He is second only to teammate Trevor Cope in scoring by a rookie in the SUNYAC.
 
The Bears return to the playoffs tomorrow night at Buffalo State when they take on the Bengals at 7 p.m. Potsdam swept the season series from Buffalo State this season, rallying for a 3-2 win road Nov. 11 and winning 5-1 in Maxcy Hall on Feb. 3.
 
Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Coach of the Year honors will be announced later this week.
