Five Potsdam records fall, Taylor captures 100 breaststroke on Day 2 of SUNYACs

BUFFALO, N.Y.—Junior Alexander Taylor shone the brightest for the SUNY Potsdam swimming and diving teams on the second day of the SUNYAC Swimming and Diving Championships. Taylor set a new Potsdam record in the 100 breaststroke preliminaries and then bested it again on his way to becoming the SUNYAC Champion in that event. Three other Bears records also fell on the day.

Taylor posted a time of 0:57.89 in the 100 breaststroke to top the previous Potsdam mark of 0:58.89. In the finals, the junior swam to victory with a new record time of 0:57.67. Taylor has set three records in the first two days of competition.

Taylor was also part of the school record setting Bears 800 free relay, that finished fourth with a time of 7:10.64. Senior Ryan Wentz, junior Marcus Domfort and sophomore Richie Zimmerman swam the other legs to top the 30-year old record.

Junior Liz Ringer was also at the top of her game today with a school record time of 1:01.06 in the 100 butterfly in the preliminaries, besting her own mark of 1:01.62. She finished 11th in the finals, just off her record pace with a time of 1:01.18.

Ringer, sophomore Ghena Binzer, freshman Victoria Blakeslee, and sophomore Laurissa Coombs also set a new school mark in the team 200 medley relay. They finished eighth in the event's finals with a time of 1:55.46, edging the previous mark of 1:55.48.
