POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY Potsdam lacrosse players
Rashaun Durden (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville East) and
Robbie Ashlaw (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) have been named 2012 Face-Off Yearbook preseason All-Americans. Durden has been named to the second team, while Ashlaw earned honorable mention recognition.
Durden, a senior defender, was named a United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) honorable mention All-American and the State University of New York Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 2011. He served as a Bears captain last season and was named to the All-SUNYAC Tournament team as he played a key role in Potsdam's run to the conference finals. Durden was an honorable mention All-SUNYAC selection in 2010. In three seasons, the senior has played in 39 games with 19 starts. He's collected 31 ground balls and caused 23 turnovers.
Ashlaw, a junior midfielder, was named to the All-SUNYAC second team in 2011. He was the Bears' second-leading scorer with 15 goals and 30 assists for 45 points. He led the team in assists and game-winning goals (4) and was second with 51 groundballs. In two seasons at Potsdam, Ashlaw has 22 goals and 48 assists for 75 points along with 63 groundballs in 30 games.
Last season the Bears posted an overall record of 8-9 and went 4-2 in the SUNYAC to earn the No. 2 seed in the conference playoffs. Potsdam hosted the program's first home playoff game, a 19-18 semifinal victory over SUNY Geneseo. With the win, the Bears advanced to the conference championship before falling to national power SUNY Cortland.
The Bears open their 2012 campaign against Mount St. Joseph in Orlando, Fla. on March 13.
