GENEVA, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam cross country teams took part in the Cross Country Only Championships hosted by Hobart and William Smith Colleges on Saturday afternoon. Clarkson University won the men's competition and the host Herons finished first in the women's race. The Potsdam women finished 11th and the men didn't receive a team score.
Senior
Hollie Heimer (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) led Potsdam's women with a 5K time of 22:17.42 and placed 17th. Freshman Rebecca Duckett (Tupper Lake, N.Y./Tupper Lake) finished with a time of 24:57.12 and sophomore
Sara Behuniak (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) posted a 26:24.98 mark. Sophomore
Kinga Kanczura (Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse), freshman
Morgan Stoughtenger (Solvay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse), and
Varvara Yakuta (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) rounded out the group with times of 29:03.21, 29:13.63, and 29:21.63, respectively.
Only four men ran for the Bears, one short of the number needed for a team score. Freshman
Brett Wunsch (Colonie, N.Y./Colonie) led Potsdam with an 8K time of 35:57.78. Senior
Brandon LaShomb (Norfolk, N.Y./Norwood-Norfolk) finished in 37:09.39. Sophomore
Dan Lewis (Beacon, N.Y./Beacon) completed the course in 37:51.13 and senior
Daniel Rubino (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Arlington) crossed the finish line at 49:04.30.
Next, Potsdam will compete in the SUNYAC Championships hosted by New Paltz on Oct. 29.
